Prisonser Rights … Or Wrongs? [updated]

We came across an interesting article by Dan O’Neill in the South Wales Echo yesterday.

Fancy prison cell

We remember hearing something about this a while ago, so it may not be news to some of you, but apparently …

Amir Ali, a convicted drug dealer, refused to leave his “comfortable” cell for a court appearance in case another inmate at his Isle of Wight jail moved in.

The judge on his case was livid but what could he do – Ali cited Labour’s Human Rights Act, saying he could not be made to go against his will.

Is it politically incorrect to suggest no prison cell should be “too comfortable,” that prison should be a place nobody, nobody at all wants to revisit?

Bonkers eh? We wonder whether it looked anything like the one pictured here?

Update: The County Press today (11th) have an article stating Home office have dismissed this story as untrue.

Well, I suppose it did sound a bit unbelievable, apparently, the inmate’s solicitor told him that he didn’t need to attend – had nothing to do with him refusing to leave. [Image courtesy of Worth 1000 photo blog]
