Anyone who has been following the Westminster House saga will be aware of Hazel Wyld, the mother of a grown up daughter with severe learning disabilities. She shares her view on the news that Westminster House has been saved in the short term from closure. Ed
I am delighted the plans to move Wesminster House to the Gouldings have now broken down and I appreciate the councils decision to look again at all the issues we, as carers raised.
Now the cynical bit of me wonders how much they actually took on board the views made clear on the consultation and how much they were influenced by the knowledge that the cost of converting The Gouldings had been grossly underestimated.
Plus of course there were offers on the table to take over the running of Westminster House from other sources.
Continue to be vigilant
As they said, the saving of Westminster House was in the short view …. we must all continue to be vigilant.
We have fought long and hard on behalf of our “grown up”handicapped children and will continue to do so..may I also thank the staff at Westminster House who fought alongside us and the Liberal, Independant and Labour councilors who stood up to be counted and advised and strengthened our resolve.
I sincerely hope this is a fresh start for us to work with all the council members to the good of some of the most vulnerable amongst us.
