Students at Ryde Academy created a Christmas show to showcase some of their successes and forthcoming performances to their parents and members of the local community.
It was a real variety show which included the elite dance team who performed their piece recently shown at the Dance Woking Festival. The evening was hosted by Moses Gale and Emma Vale, 6th Formers, and opened with all the students performing a version of Band Aid’s Do they Know it’s Christmas.
Rock Challenge sneak preview
The audience were also treated to a sneak preview of the Academy’s forthcoming performance of Annie and the Rock Challenge team’s dance at the National finals which were held in Milton Keynes in June.
Even the staff had a go with Mrs Griffith-Nash (Performing Arts) and Mr Nye (Maths) doing a rendition of the A Fairytale of New York. The show ended with performers and the audience singing We Wish you a Merry Christmas.
During the interval students from Red House served refreshments in aid of their charity, the RNLI, and students from the Yellow house sold popcorn to help fundraise for the Children’s Air Ambulance Service.
Enterprising pupils
The Young Enterprise Team, Serious Prints, sold their range of Tote Bags and Year 7 and 8 students sang carols by the Christmas tree.
The Vice Chairman of the Isle of WIght Council attended the event and was impressed the array of talent displayed by students.
He said,
“The performances by the students were outstanding and they were true professionals. It was a delight to see that the performing arts are alive and well in schools and it was a privilege to meet the students afterwards.”
Mrs Evans said
“What a fantastic evening. We are so proud of our students and this was a lovely way to celebrate all their commitment and their achievements over the last year “
