Hundreds of Islanders and visitors made their way to Yarmouth on Saturday afternoon for the annual Easter Saturday Duck Race.
A whopping 1,250 ducks were sold for the main race, 40 Ducks for the ‘Corporate Duck Race‘ and including some donations, £1,888 was raised for good causes in Yarmouth.
Carnival Secretary, Lynne Pitcher, told OnTheWight,
The money raised will be used throughout the 2014 Carnival Year to help fund other events such as Carnival Week, Guy Fawkes Firework display and the Senior Citizens Christmas Lunch.
“On top of that, donations are also given to local organisations such as the local Primary Schools.
The races
Events kicked off with rowing races between the sailing club and the yacht club, followed by the Corporate Duck Race.
Unfortunately, the tide had only just turned, resulting in inertia for the Corporates, but once the main race started the tide had picked up.
