RaffleMyBricks: You Could Win A Totland House For £25 (Podcast)

We interview Susanne who is trying to move out of her house by means of a raffle.

RaffleMyBricks: You Could Win A House For £25We’ve seen this story floating around for a while, but Susanne got in touch with VentnorBlog to give us some more details on her novel approach to moving house.

She’s decided to put her home plus £5,000, up as a prize in a competition that’s starting this Friday.

The house in Totland, Isle of Wight that she describes as a spacious, Victorian, 4 bedroomed, semi-detached, freehold property could belong to the person who answers three questions about the Island and pays over £25 to enter.

There’s no restrictions on the number of tickets that can be bought and for those who don’t have online banking, they can post cheques in, using Royal Mail.

The intention is to sell 18,000 tickets, but if this isn’t reached, the competition will still take place and the winner will receive 70% of the ticket sales.

The competition opens at one minute past midnight, just into Friday the 19th September and closes on the 28th December 2008.

Have a listen for yourself …

The quality of the recording isn’t great, but what can you do? It’s the telephone.

I might just enter this. With 18,000 tickets @ £25 it’s valued at £450,000. The lucky winner could sell it for £400,000 and earn 6% interest in the bank (£24k a year) :D

I would like to know where the 30% of ticket sales go in the event that less than 18,000 are sold (which is pretty likely). I mean, if only 10,000 are sold then 30% of £250,000 is £75,000!!
not a bad return!
Or will they donate it to charity?

This house was on the market originally, a few months ago, for £285,00 – where does £450K come from??

If 18,000 tickets aren’t sold, then the organisers get 30% of a pot of money and keep their house – I’d be hoping that I didn’t sell 18,000 tickets!

Having just sold a house in Ruislip and having lived there for a couple of years, I can clearly state that my £25 will be staying firmly in my pocket. At the time it had some of the highest street crime rates in London

I wondered where all my golf balls disappeared to off the 7 hole

oh – high street crime?

It was 30 years ago before Viles disease closed it down and they found several bodies anchored to the bottom.

Its not so bad now, but no swimming or boating allowed (you can paddle on the artificial beach they created) and its quite nice on a Summers day with purpose built BBQ and thousands of kids

The area wherethe girls in bikinis are sitting is now flooded and a mud bath…all the family stuff is on the other side.

Saying all this it is nice and I still visit when back in Ruislip
