Raiders Look To Stretch Their Unbeaten Run

The Island’s ice hockey team the Wightlink Raiders will extend their unbeaten run to 20 games this weekend, if they can avoid defeat in both their matches.

Jeremy Cornish’s team are enjoying their most successful season for more than a decade and stand 8 points clear at the top of the English National League first division. With eight games left they are firm favourites to lift the league trophy although both games this weekend will be a stern test of their title credentials.

Bristol Pitbulls visit the Island
On Saturday the Raiders entertain the Bristol Pitbulls. Bristol have struggled this season since being promoted last year but have done well against the Raiders this season and will bring a strong physical presence to Ryde Arena. Their team includes 3 ex Raiders including the Hargreaves brothers Richard and Mike, both of whom spent several seasons playing on the Island. Face off tomorrow night is at 6pm.

On Sunday the Island team will make the long trip to Wales to take on an in form Cardiff Devils. On paper this looks to be one of the toughest fixtures left for the Raiders although they have beaten Cardiff narrowly on both occasions they’ve played them so far this season.
