South Western Railway say they are still planning to re-open Island Line on 1st November.
Rumours had been circulating on social media that the opening was more likely to take place around 18th November, but a spokesperson from SWR told News OnTheWight today that, subject to a final round of train safety tests being successfully completed, 1st November is still the target launch date.
Our thanks to Craig Hannon for sharing these photos he managed to grab earlier in the week of the new trains.
Background to delays
The service between Shanklin and Ryde Pier Head has been out of action for ten months, seven months longer than originally planned. This year has seen several delays announced with a variety of reasons given.
Those who rely on the service for travel to work, school and for leisure will be keeping their fingers crossed that the final round of train safety tests will be completed successfully.
