‘Resilience at the Heart of Isle of Wight Communities’ will continue with community work already established, but key features of our new project will be working alongside the Isle of Wight Cultural strategy, the UNESCO Biosphere designation and promotion of Healthy and Positive Lifestyles.

The UNESCO Biosphere
The UNESCO Biosphere designation celebrates the unique environment and ecosystems of the Isle of Wight and has three core purposes:

  • To protect and enhance biological and cultural diversity.
  • To use these special qualities of place to build better lives for the people who live there.
  • To share information and opportunity to participate in the Biosphere project.

What will the project deliver?
Over the proposed four-year duration the project will deliver the following outcomes:

  • Support geographically focused work across the Island to build community capacity and infrastructure to help residents, community groups and Town and Parish Councils achieve their aspirations for their local area.
  • Support the delivery of Island wide aspirations around the environment, culture and health by generating engagement and participation of local groups in activities and projects which help deliver these outcomes.
  • Strengthened individual skills, knowledge and confidence to support community capacity and resilience at the local (Parish/village) level.
  • Strengthened organisational community capacity, strategic planning and partnership working at the local (Parish/ Village) level.
