Congratulations to Isle of Wight born Olympian Richard Jefferies who made his debut in the London 2012 Olympics this morning for Team GB.
Taking part in the 1,000m Canoe Sprint, Richard qualified in the first heat, coming fifth with a time of 4:48.511, which as fast enough to take him through to the semi-finals.
Just after 11am, the semi-finals took place, seeing Richard achieve the 1,000m sprint in 4:49.874, securing his place in the 1,000m final.
That takes place on Wednesday just before 10am.
Richard will also be competing in the heats for the 200m Canoe Sprint on Friday morning at the same time.
We’ll be watching this 25 year old Island-born athlete with interest.
