Born on the Isle of Wight and now living in Nottingham, canoeist Richard Jefferies will be showing the world what he’s made of tomorrow, when he competes in the London 2012 Olympics.
The 25 year old has apparently only been practising the sport for the last four years, but has clearly shown great talent to be selected to represent Team GB. We’re sure that Islanders will be cheering him along and sending their very best wishes to Richard this week.
First race on Monday morning
Richard will be taking part in the (C1)1,000m race tomorrow (Monday) morning at 9.50am, as well as the (C1)200m on Friday morning at 9.50am, both races take place at Eton Dorney near Windsor.
Finally feel an Olympian
Prior to the Games, he told GB Canoeing, “The training camp in Barcelona was really good and allowed us to concentrate solely on training, cut off from all the excitement of the Games and in great weather conditions.
“It was then great to come back to go to the Opening Ceremony and visit the village and finally feel I was an Olympian. Now I am looking forward to racing.”
Best of luck Richard, we’ll be rooting for you this week.
