Riverside Centre Awarded For Digital Innovation

The Riverside Centre in Newport has got cause for celebration, after being named the winner of the prestigious ‘Voluntary Sector Award’ at the second annual Next Generation Learning Awards.

Riverside Centre Received Award For Digital InnovationThe award was presented to Riverside IT tutor Gary Axford by radio and TV funny woman, Sandie Toksvig last month.

What’s it for?
The award recognises technological excellence in the further education and skills sector and rewards those who use technology in outstanding or innovative ways for the benefit of learners, communities and local employers.

On winning the award, Richard Priest, of The Riverside Centre, said “We are thrilled to receive this award as acknowledgement for all the work done by everyone involved at The Riverside Centre. We are incredibly proud of our work and to have it recognised in a national awards scheme is a fantastic boost to all involved.

“The success was a credit to a small and dedicated team that inspire others, that motivate others and that do put the individual at the centre of learning – we seek to secure resources to enable people to access experiences otherwise denied them.”

Stephen Crowne, Chief Executive of Becta (the government agency presenting the awards), said “The Next Generation Learning Awards highlight the impressive use of technology in the FE and Skills sector. The accolades are an important opportunity to recognise and reward organisations that are using ICT in creative and innovative ways to benefit and inspire learners.

“This has never been more important. Our world is becoming increasingly technological, making it imperative that today’s students are equipped with the necessary skills to compete in tomorrow’s digital environment. The award winners will provide inspiration for other FE and Skills providers to use technology and help prepare everyone for the future”.

Congratulations to all involved, this is a great success for the Riverside Centre and the Island.
