Riverside Vaccination Centre closing this Sunday: Here’s what’s happening next

The Covid Vaccination Centre at Riverside in Newport Quay will be closing its doors this Sunday (28th August).

The countless health workers and volunteers who have helped administer tens of thousands of Covid vaccines and boosters since the Centre, which is managed by Managed by Solent NHS Trust, first opened in January 2021, have been thanked for their service.

Autumn rollout
The autumn rollout of the Covid and flu vaccines will begin during the first week of September.

This will see staff set about vaccinating care home residents and people who are housebound.

National booking service
Also in that first week of September, the National Booking Service will also open ahead of the wider rollout, due to start on 12th September.

Those who are most susceptible to serious illness from Covid-19 and those aged 75 and over will be invited to book an appointment for their jabs which will be administered at a variety of locations close to home, including some GP practices, community pharmacies and roving clinics (more details coming soo).

Thanks to staff and volunteers
A spokesperson for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board and Solent NHS Trust, told News OnTheWight,

“We want to thank the amazing staff and volunteers who have supported the vaccination programme across Hampshire and Isle of Wight for their ongoing outstanding work supporting our communities during such challenging times.”

“Keeping our staff and volunteers informed of next steps”
The spokesperson went on to say,

“The next stage of the Covid-19 vaccination programme, which starts in September, meets the needs of our population and has developed in line with how the pandemic has changed.

“At the forefront of our plans is making sure eligible individuals are able to access the vaccine easily and conveniently, and we are keeping our staff and volunteers informed of next steps.

“Eligible individuals will be made aware when they are able to book an appointment for Covid and flu vaccines and we would encourage everyone to come forward when invited to help protect themselves and those around them this winter.”
