As well as the centenary celebrations being held in Ryde today for the RNID, another celebration will be taking place in Newport. Amber tells us more. Ed
Charity volunteers and staff are today brewing up for a tea party to help RNID celebrates its 100th birthday and the launch of the organisation’s new name – Action on Hearing Loss.
During the event in Newport marking the charity’s special landmark year, volunteers will be thanked for their inspirational work, which makes a huge difference to the everyday lives of people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Lifetime Achievement Award
The charity will be presenting its national Lifetime Achievement Award to Ray Felton, a 72-year-old hearing aid user from Blackwater, to mark his committed support over the last 15 years helping local people adjust to hearing aids, and successfully delivering a training programme for care home staff around the island.
RNID is becoming Action on Hearing Loss to better describe the breadth of help the charity provides for people with all types of hearing loss and tinnitus. The charity hopes the new brand will make more people aware of its life-changing support and services, as well as the importance of protecting your hearing and acting quickly to address hearing loss.
A special time in our history
Service Manager at Action on Hearing Loss Isle of Wight, Lesley Holmes, says: “Our centenary event is marking a special time in our history as we celebrate RNID’s achievements of the last 100 years and look forward to supporting people with hearing loss as Action on Hearing Loss in the future. The celebration is a ‘thank you’ to our wonderful volunteers whose dedication and skills make a tremendous difference to the everyday lives of people across the island who are deaf or hard of hearing.”
Action on Hearing Loss is encouraging people on the island to look after their hearing and take the charity’s hearing check by visiting our Website or calling 0844 800 3838.
