A report that a 50 year old woman aboard the sail training ship Lord Nelson had become unwell led to Cowes RNLI lifeboat being launched just late on Friday night.

The Lord Nelson had sought help in the area of Thorness Bay. After the lifeboat, helmed by Neil Archer, went alongside another lifeboat crew member, Dr Will King, found that the woman was suffering from acute respiratory distress. She was conveyed to Trinity Landing off Cowes Parade, where an ambulance was waiting to take her on to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.

The lifeboat had launched at 11.55pm and returned to station at 1.40am.

The Lord Nelson is owned by the Jubilee Sailing Trust and specially designed to accommodate people with disabilities.
