Ryde Academy celebrates GCSE results amidst post-Pandemic challenges

News shared by Amanda on behalf of Ryde Academy. Ed

Students and staff from Ryde Academy are celebrating today after receiving top GCSE grades.

The Year 11 students who sat the exams in May and June are getting their results today, helping set their course for the future. The exams represent the culmination of their secondary school education and the grades students secure determine what they will go on and do next – further study, an apprenticeship or entry level role in the workplace.

Still dealing with the impact of the pandemic
This is the second year that exams have taken place as normal, but schools across the country are still dealing with the impact of the pandemic.

To support the Year 11 students, staff at Ryde Academy, which is part of AET – a national network of schools – laid on additional bespoke intervention lessons, holiday sessions and special evening revision sessions. All students also accessed lesson 6 provision giving students an extra hour a day of lessons.

Special mention
All these efforts paid off, with students securing some brilliant results, including:

  • Catherine Propia – 7  9s and 3 grade 8s
  • Harry Sheppard – 4 9s, 5 8s and 1 grade 7s
  • Draven Scovell – 4 9s, 5 8s and 1 grade 7
  • Lily Millward – 6 9s, 2 grade 8’s, 1 grade 7 and 1 grade 6.
  • Yvie Partridge: 5 grade 9s, 3 8s and 1 7

“My congratulations to everyone at Ryde Academy for everything they have achieved this year.  Our Year 11s have worked so hard and shown grit and determination and have been supported so brilliantly by the entire Ryde team. Particular congratulations to Catherine Propia, Harry Sheppard, Draven Scovell, Lily Millward and Yvie Partridge for their results – I have every confidence they have very bright futures ahead of them.”

Gibb: GCSEs are a milestone in any young person’s life
Schools Minister, Nick Gibb, said,

“Pupils receiving their results in Ryde Academy, and across the country, should feel very proud today. I want to congratulate them all and express my gratitude to all of the teachers and leaders who have helped them on the way.

“GCSEs are a milestone in any young person’s life, and pupils collecting results today have the opportunity to progress onto one of many high-quality options including A levels, T Levels and hundreds of apprenticeship routes. I wish them all the best whatever they decide to do.”
