Ryde Carnival Week: The fun continues plenty to see and so

Today, Thursday 1st September, sees the Ryde Carnival Main Procession take place.

Jo Morrison explains,

“Our fabulous main procession is back, featuring all your favourites – carnival royalty, marching bands, community floats and Shademakers‘ The Queen’s Beasts from the Platinum Jubilee Pageant in London!”

Timings
Those taking part will assemble at Canoe Lake at 5pm, where judging will take place from 5.30pm.

The procession moves off at 6.30pm.

The route: Esplanade, Dover Street, Park Road, Star Street, High Street, Union Street, Esplanade (south side). Disperse from George Street junction.

Illuminated Procession
The Illuminated Procession returns on Saturday 3rd September. See the summer off in style with the final Isle of Wight carnival of the season.

Those taking part will assemble at Canoe Lake at 7pm, where judging will take place from 7.30pm.

The procession moves off at 8.30pm following the same route as the main carnival procession.

Please be aware that Park of the Dead will be appearing at the end of the Illuminated procession.

Minature garden competition
Create a miniature garden and show off your designs on 3rd September at 2pm in the Town Square (by Ryde Co-op).

Create your own designs and use your imagination to create a miniature green space.

Thanks to Busy Bee Garden Centre who are donating the prizes.

If you want to take part but aren’t available on the day, we can arrange for you to drop off your garden in advance. Free entry

Meridan Corps of Drums
Static performance on Saturday 3rd September at 1pm in Minghella Square.

Carnival programme and window spotting
Pick up a carnival programme from McColls, Mellishs, Strand Newsagency or Ryde Library for £1.

It’s got all the carnival information as well as the window spotting (there are over 120 windows to spot) and a colouring competition.

Ryde Carnival Week music quiz at the Simeon Arms
Paul “Jacko” Jackson will be holding his music quiz for Ryde Carnival on Friday 2nd September at 8pm. £1 entry pp plus raffle.

During the evening tickets are drawn for free drinks and the winning team win a free round of drinks. Get more info on their social media page.

Ryde Carnival is free to watch, but costs about £14,000 to put on.
