Ryde Chorus performing in a church

Ryde Chorus seeks new musical director to start in 2027

Ryde Chorus, a friendly mixed voice choir based in Ryde, wants to hear from anyone interested in becoming their next Musical Director.

Around 27 singers currently make up the group, and that number keeps climbing.

Members bring a solid grounding in music to every rehearsal, with a repertoire that leans towards classical pieces alongside lighter, more contemporary songs.

Where and when the choir rehearses
Thursday evenings currently belong to the United Reform Church in Ryde, where the choir meets from 7.30pm until 9pm.

A move is on the cards too, with the group eyeing up All Saints Church as a new rehearsal home, just a short walk up from the ferry terminal.

Two or three concerts a year take place at All Saints Church in Ryde, giving the choir a steady rhythm of performances to work towards.

Some soloists come from within the choir’s own ranks, and members occasionally team up with other choirs to share soloists or whole concerts.

What the role involves
A wide-ranging knowledge of musical styles matters for this post, and the successful candidate needs to feel at ease directing the choir alongside instrumentalists when the occasion calls for it.

Teaching experience counts for a lot too, particularly a track record of helping vocal groups sharpen their technique.

Balancing enjoyment with quality sits at the heart of the job, and whoever takes on the role needs to hold both in mind during every rehearsal and performance.

Working alongside the choir’s committee forms part of the role as well, covering programme planning and the occasional meeting.

Pay and how to get in touch
Ryde Chorus keeps the pay for this position open to negotiation, depending on the candidate.

Anyone keen to find out more can contact Anne Savory directly, either by phone on 07771 632 618 or by email at [email protected].

Ryde Chorus operates as a registered charity, number 1115171.
