Les Cupis:

Ryde Harriers take part in choice of races

Thanks to Tom for this latest report from the Ryde Harriers running team. Ed

The Summer allows more choice for club runners with track runs, multi-terrain and road courses. The first week offered a choice of 5k on the track in Sandown or the same distance on the road back at Ryde.

Personal bests
Over on the track it was a personal best setting session with 17 runners taking on 12 and a half laps in windy conditions.

First home was Simon McMorran who just made it under eighteen minutes finishing in a time of 17.55. He was followed closely by Tom Blackwell who just failed to break the eighteen minute barrier, but who set a new pb of 18.05. Third was Simon Newman who smashed over 45 seconds of his previous best to set a new pb of 18.38.

First lady, who broke twenty minute for the first time, was Sarah Kavanagh who also smashed her pb in a time of 19.17.

Ryde run
Back over in Ryde, runners were nominating their times with Graham Maitland managing the rare feat of being fastest overall and the nearest to his nomination with a finishing time of 22.26, but he shared the points with Helene Graham who was also only four seconds out from her time finishing in 29.26. Fastest women on the night was Tracey Dillon who crossed the line in 22.55.

Might Contain Nut Brecon Ultra
On Saturday, ultra-running tough man Les Cupis (pictured) was back in Wales for another long distance challenge in the Might Contain Nut Brecon Ultra.

The 50-mile course was altered before the start and then shortened mid-race due to the extreme weather conditions but still included the summits of Cribyn and Pen Y Fan. Les finished the abridged course of 35 miles in 8 hours 8 minutes and was third vet home.

Hampshire Road Race League
On Sunday Pete Still competed in the latest Hampshire Road Race League event, the Alton 10 mile race and finished in a time of 1.15.37.

Also on Sunday, Sally Roberts ran the Lymington 10k race in blustery conditions but managed a great time of 49.23. Simon McMorran, running for Stubbington Green, also took part and had an excellent run to finish 7th overall but first vet 50 in a time of 37.22.
