Ryde Harriers: Victory for Tom Hill

Tom Hill Ryde Harriers

Thanks to Tom for this latest report from the Ryde Harriers running group. Ed

It was back to the short blast that is the 5km handicap for Ryde Harriers last week. The handicap times slots are based on previous best performances, so great for those who are on top form, not so good for those struggling for fitness as they see the field galloping past them.

Catherine Young showed her continuing good form to take the ladies first place, twenty seconds ahead of Karen Collet who in turn was a further thirty seconds ahead of Joy Furmidge in third.

For the men, Tom Hill showed he has completely recovered from his injuries with a storming run 45 seconds ahead of Ken Beak and Rowland Sillito, who crossed the line for the same time, but Ken just nosed in front for second place ahead of Rowland.

Sunday’s race
Sunday saw another fixture in the Hampshire Road Race League with Harriers represented by seven runners at the Eastleigh 10k.

First home was super-vet Pete Young in a time of 40:03 to take the vet 60 title. Next to finish was club captain Pete Still in a personal best time of 42:34. He was followed by Andy Lewis who also ran a pb of 43:44. Karen Collet came next in 50:00 ahead of Steve Lee in 51:08, Jonathon Norton in 51:40 and Bridget Lewis who claimed another pb in a time of 52:01.
