Thanks to Michaela for the latest news from Ryde Inshore Rescue, in her own words. Ed
Ryde Inshore Rescue has just beaten their total number of callouts in any year … and it’s still only August!
The Independent lifeboat station attended their 83rd callout of the year on Monday afternoon when they went to the assistance of a sailboarder in trouble off Gosport.
Earlier on in the day they were called out to two jet ski’s which had collided off of Ryde Pier and one of the skiers had sustained hand and rib injuries.
Seeking more volunteers
This year is seeing the waters off of Ryde extremely busy and now the crew of the lifeboat station are seeking more volunteers to help within the unit. With so many incidents the current crew are extremely stretched; and whilst they are coping fine they would like a break from time to time.
Therefore any person who is interested in helping out in any area of the club; be it boat crew, shore crew, mechanic etc is welcome to visit the unit at Appley any day between 11 and 6 or call 564564 for more information.
