Simeon Rec flooded 24 December 2013 by Talk To Tippers

Ryde badly hit by the storm’s flooding (Photo gallery)

As the story of the last night’s storm unveiled, it became clear that Ryde was badly hit by flooding, clearly illustrated by a photo by Holly of St John’s station where a canal, not a train line was all that could be seen between the platforms.

The morning-light revealed the extent of the flooding
This morning, the enormity of how badly some parts of Ryde have been affected is becoming clear.

Early this morning Josie Pritchard and ‘Talk to Tippers’ were both out and about in Ryde taking photos that will shock many Islanders.

Simeon Rec not for the first time
Simeon Rec, which has been flooded many times in previous years, is a lake, not a park. This flooding also extends outside the Rec to surrounding areas.

The tunnel by Ryde Esplanade station is utterly flooded, as the photos below show.

Flooding inside homes
Ryde councillor Wayne Whittle has been walking around some of the affected areas. We were particularly shocked to see the photo of the inside on someone’s flooded house (below) that he had taken.
