As they do every Christmas, this year the Salvation Army will once again be hosting a Christmas dinner for anyone who might otherwise be alone on Christmas Day.
Each year they rely on donations from businesses and the general public to help those less fortunate.
Can you help?
Are you a business that could donate meat, fruit, vegetables or (non-alcoholic) drinks for this charitable event? Also welcome are nuts, juice, mince pies, etc.
There’s also a need for table clothes, napkins, Christmas crackers etc. Whatever you can spare will be gratefully received.
The Christmas dinner is not only organised for those on their own such as the elderly, but also the homeless, single parents with kids, or those housed in B&B accommodation.
Donations that can be given as gifts
The Salvation Army also like to be able to give out gifts on the day. Flannels, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant etc, are very much appreciated by the homeless, whereas talc, hankies, boxes of chocolates, etc go work well for the elderly.
Toys are also collected for the young.
If you are able to offer any of the above, please call the Newport office on 516312. You may need to leave a message as they are very busy with visits this time of year.
