If you’ve ever been given the chance to perform at Ryde Theatre or been to see a gig there, tonight is the last chance that you have to help save this much needed venue.
Its future is being decided at a Council Cabinet meeting at Bembridge Village Hall from 6pm onwards (why so far away?).
Reading through the notes for the meeting, I see that a recent Theatres Review, stated that with the right management and investment to refurbish the site, The Venue (Ryde) could make an operational profit for the Council. Almost every gig I’ve been to there (and that has been many over the past two years) has seen a packed theatre. If this venue goes, there’ll be nowhere else to see live music on the same scale.
Wouldn’t it be sad to have to tell our kids in 10-20 years time that the beautiful building on Lind Street was once a brilliant music venue and theatre, which gave talented Island musicians an opportunity to showcase themselves and promote the Isle of Wight to a wider audience.
