An exciting new exhibition is being hosted by Seaview Art Gallery this month.
Titled, The New Republic, the exhibition features work from eight contemporary Island artists and as you’ll see from the gallery of images below, is about as varied as you can get.
The work features a variety of mediums from acrylics, watercolours and pen, to sculpture and spray can art.
Eight artists respond to The Republic of Trees
The Republic of Trees is the tale of four adolescent children who, living in France, decide to run away into the forest and live their lives according to The Social Contract by philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
The New Republic is a reaction to the social impact of Jean-Jacques Rousseau theories on society and the way we develop in our surroundings and in context of this novel.
It was also a chance for the artists who are so often found doing landscapes and seascapes to test their skills and push to discover ways to express their interpretation of such a dark and troublesome novel.
Artists showing their work include:
- Jo Hummel Newell
- Charlotte Hodge Thomas
- Tony Trowbridge
- Lisa Traxler
- Morag Smith
- Fiona Moatt
- Max Rock
- Michael Forrest
