Thanks to Fred for this write-up of Saturday’s LIVE music event in Ventnor Library. Ed
Ventnor Library rocked once again on Saturday to celebrate its continuing existence and value to the community. Saved from drastic cuts earlier this year, Ventnor Library is finding new uses for its facilities.
With its balcony over the children’s area and excellent acoustics, the library provides a perfect “minstrels’ gallery” which the Friends of Ventnor Library are keen to exploit. The musicians like it too!
Over 300 people passed through doors
Over three hundred people passed through the doors to use the library and be entertained. The event kicked off with Edwardian songs sung by the Longdown Ladies, providing close harmonies and old-time melodies.
Following on was a set from the renowned Harry Verey of various classical guitar pieces, old and new.
New numbers from Lucid
Lucid then graced the audience with a number of their newest numbers and a few popular, established ones.
Lucid’s CDs were available for people to extend their enjoyment at home. To round off the afternoon, the Hillmans played a rollicking set of rhythm and blues classics.
There were elderflower cordial (to be turned in to elderflower champagne), cream teas, and cakes for sale — at very reasonable prices.
