Thanks to Paul for a reminder of this fundraising event for the Sophie Rolf. Ed
The Isle of Wight Ice Dance Figure Skating Club is holding a skating Gala on Friday 10th May at 5.30pm – 6.30pm at Planet Ice for the Sophie Rolf Fund
150 members
The Isle of Wight Ice Dance Figure Skating Club is a self-funded group who raise money throughout the year to support the skaters and synchronised skating teams to help towards costs of travel, competition entry fees even social events.
They have a membership of 150 with age ranges from 4 to 60 years of age, with skaters that compete internationally, some locally and we have those that just do it for fun.
Supporting local causes
As a group they like to help the local community by way of putting on shows and gala’s, last year they took this one step further and decided to nominate a local charity `Johns Club’ and performed a gala whereby all funds raised went to them to help support their holiday club which was closed due to lack of funds.
This was so successful, not only in raising money but also bringing our club together. They performed a special number with a mix of skaters just for the evening, Johns Club joined them, and even managed to get a few of them on the ice by way of wheelchairs and the `older’ skaters skating them around during the number, the looks on their faces just said it all.
Inspired by Sophie’s bravery
This year they are having a skating gala on Friday 10th May at 5.30pm – 6.30pm at Planet Ice and are going to donate all funds raised that evening to the Sophie Rolf Fund – Kissy Puppy.
Sophie is an inspiration to all children and they say they are honoured to be able to help.
