There’s been a night and morning of continued rain, so as Islanders have come to expect, this means many incidents of storm sewage overflows around the Isle of Wight coastline.
Surfers Against Sewage
Campaign group, Surfers Against Sewage, report ten incidents with the warning, “storm sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow in this location within the past 48 hours”.
These include Gurnard, Cowes, Ryde, Seaview, St Helens, Bembridge, Whitecliff Bay, Yaverland, Sandown and Shanklin.
Southern Water
Southern Water‘s Beach Buoy service reports five incidents of storm overflow releases in the last 24 hours, at Cowes, Gurnard, Yaverland, Sandown and Shanklin.
Along with five incidents of, “unverified overflow release that may have affected water quality” at Totland, Freshwater, Ryde, St Helens and Whitecliff Bay.
Bembridge and Seaview are marked with the blue icon that means ‘no release to bathing site’, but when you click on the icon the text reads,
“There has been a overflow release within the last 24 hours which ended at 08:00 on 30 December that will not impact the bathing water due to tidal conditions”
Environment Agency
The Environment Agency does not currently have any warnings about the quality of bathing water around the Isle of Wight coastline.
