Further to previous reports that emergency repairs to a fractured sewer would mean Newport Road could be closed for at least a week (Southern Vectis reporting longer), Island Roads have today confirmed the work has been completed.
The road closed to the public at 9am on Friday 19th July and as it was expected to remain closed whilst the work took place, Island Roads decided to bring forward resurfacing work to take place at the same time.
Keith Gourlay, Island Roads Construction Manager told OnTheWight this afternoon,
“Southern Water have now completed the repairs to the sewer in Newport Road, Ventnor and Island Roads have commenced repairs to the road. We hope to complete these works by Friday 26th to enable us to re open the road, to two way traffic this weekend. We thank residents for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
