Shauna Madden: My time with OnTheWight

As we mentioned at the beginning of the week, Journalism degree student Shauna Madden has been working with OnTheWight this week. We’ve been hugely impressed with Shauna’s research and writing skills, her conscientious attitude and all round enthusiasm for news reporting and investigative journalism (more to come on that later). We’re really pleased Shauna found her time here so useful and got to experience the Ventnor Fringe Festival. Ed

I am incredibly lucky to have been given the opportunity to work with OnTheWight this week, and I can honestly say that I have thoroughly enjoyed every day that I have spent here.

It is clear from working ‘behind the scenes’ that OnTheWight are a respected and truthful organisation, run by two completely dedicated individuals who are both clearly very knowledgeable about not only the Isle of Wight, but about news and news writing in general.

Challenging tasks
I have been able to learn an incredible amount in just this one week with Sally and Simon simply because they have given me challenging tasks which allowed me to do so.

I managed to speak to some lovely people during my time here, and I always had something new and interesting to be doing.

Gained experience and knowledge
Covering the Ventnor Fringe festival was amazing – I’d never done anything like that before. I really feel like I have gained experience and knowledge that I will take forward with me and use in the rest of my career.

Thank you OnTheWight!
