Short Story Competition A Great Success

Congratulations are in order for nine budding young writers from the Isle of Wight.

Short Story Competition For 7-13 Year OldsNewport Library was a hive of activity this morning as the winners of a recent Short Story Competition took part in a prize giving ceremony.

The competition was run throughout all the Island libraries, for children aged seven to sixteen.

The theme of the short story, between 200-800 words, was ‘Out of this World’ and we’re told the organisers received “some really creative and clever ideas!”

Rachel Thompson, the Senior Librarian at Newport Library told us the response to the competition was fantastic, with 169 entries across the three age categories (7-9, 10-13 and 14-16).

She went on to say that many of the entries came from schools, who had incorporated the competition into their lessons.

Prizes were donated by Waterstones Bookstore and Cineworld Cinema tickets donated by the Carisbrooke Central Extended Services officer, Carol Ward.
