World famous sailer, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, has announced that he’ll be swapping his sailing boat for a powerboat at the end of the month to take part in the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes on 29th August.
He’ll be racing as Team Scorpion along with Shelley Jory as the driver, who suggested the idea to him just two weeks ago.
The 70 year old is always keen to take on a challenge and this race certainly will be, it’s the longest and toughest one-day endurance powerboat race in the world.
He said “When Shelley asked whether I would like to navigate for her in the Classic Cowes-Torquay-Cowes powerboat race, it took one second to accept. This is something I have not done before so naturally I want to find out what it is all about. This will be fun with the spice of competition,” says Sir Robin.
The race starts at 10am on Saturday 29th August. Head to Cowes is you want to witness the start.
