As we mentioned a couple of weeks ago, an update was due today on the future of the Children’s heart surgery unit in Southampton.
This morning, the Court of Appeal handed down its judgment on the Judicial Review regarding Safe and Sustainable (the body leading two national reviews of specialist paediatric services) and the Royal Brompton Hospital.
Three Court of Appeal judges found the Safe and Sustainable process for the public consultation to be fair, lawful and proper, dismissing unfounded allegations raised by the Royal Brompton Hospital.
Can now move on with decision-making
The result of this judgment is that the Joint Committee can now consider consultation responses and the other evidence received in relation to the proposals.
We are informed that the decision making committee will consider all the evidence from last year’s consultation and prepare to make a final decision at a meeting in public on 4 July 2012.
We’ll let you know when we hear the outcome.
