Sports clubs to receive funding

This welcome news in from the council, in their own words. Ed

Following the success of the London 2012 Olympics, the Isle of Wight council sports development unit has launched a ‘Grow Your Club’ grants programme.

After securing external funding through the Big Lottery Fund, the council has been working in partnership with the NHS and Community Action Isle of Wight to award funding to sports clubs and organisations.

Bids were invited
Local sports clubs were invited to bid for grants of between £200 to £1000 which must be used to build a legacy and grow the clubs. Under the first round of grants, 15 sports clubs and organisations have been awarded funding.

These include the Isle of Wight Ice Dance and Figure Skating Club, the Solent Netball Club, Queensway Gymnastics and the Isle of Wight Table Tennis Association.

Each club has been invited to The Heights Leisure Centre in Sandown at 6pm on Thursday 29 November to accept their grants.

Second round of funding available
The sports unit is currently accepting applications for the second round of funding, again for grants ranging between £200 to £1000.

To apply, email [email protected] to request an application form, or ring 823818. You can also apply online at www.iwight.com and then searching ‘Sports Unit’ in the search box.
