If you’re a blues fan and missed the trailer last week for Papa George playing at the Winter Gardens, read on.
In about four weeks time, the fourth annual Spring Blues arrives in town at the Ventnor Winter Gardens and The Papa George Band will be headlining.
Born in 1953, within a stone’s throw of London’s Tin Pan Alley, Papa George has dedicated himself to playing live shows, for over 30 years, around the blues circuits/festivals of the UK, Europe and USA.
One of the UK’s finest blues guitarists, Papa George ‘s styles range from deep south Delta blues on National Steel and Resonator guitars to full on blues rock boogie – what the Fender Strat is all about!
Supported by supremely talented sidemen Pete Stoud (Peter Green Splinter Group / Roger Chapman) on bass and Tom Compton (Johnny Winter) on drums, this three piece is as solid and vibrant as you can get, from hard driving R&B to laid back foot stompin’ delta blues.
“….highly regarded, both here and in the US and Europe, for the gritty passion of his voice and his finesse on the blues frets…”
Paul Jones BBC Radio2
Also on the bill are one of the Island’s top blues outfits, The Amen Boogie Blues Band, who have built up a strong set of Electric Chicago and Delta blues, recently having supported mainstream blues artistes such as Ian Siegal, Errol Linton and Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges.
Damien Paul will open the evening with some fine acoustic blues, ably assisted by Stuart Woodley on Double Bass.
