The text below is from St Mary’s, about the income they have raised from hospital car parking charges – Ed

Income generated since 1st April 2008 from parking fees paid by patients, visitors and staff, for using the Trust car parks are:

2008/09 – £522k
2009/10 – £411k
2010/11 – £422k
2011/12 – £478k

The fees charged to patients, visitors and staff provides Isle of Wight NHS Trust with income.

Half goes to health services
Approximately half the income covers the cost of maintaining the car parks and hospital security. The other half helps to pay for health services.

Whilst we have been able to hold our car parking charges at a relatively low level compared to others who charge for parking, the cost of maintaining the car parks and providing security for the Hospital has increased.

Car parking charges at St. Mary’s Hospital were last increased by 5.2% from 1st August 2011 in line with the Retail Price Index. The previous and now current cost of parking is:

Period of parking – From 1st January 2011 – From 1st August 2011
Up to 2 hours – £1.30 – £1.40
Up to 4 hours – £2.50 – £2.60
Up to 6 hours – £3.70 – £3.90
6 to 24 hours – £6.20 – £6.50
