Stephanie Mullins: My Experience At VentnorBlog

It really has been a delight having Stephanie Mullins working as an intern for VB over the last two weeks. Her journalism skills are of a high standard (especially as she’s only in her second year) and her motivation and commitment have been second to none.

We’d have no hesitation in employing Steph and can’t recommend her highly enough. Here’s what she thought of her time working on the Island at VB. Ed

You know when people say that if you find a job you love, you’ll never have to work a day in your life. Well that’s how I’ve felt for the past two weeks.

Steph Mullins:In the beginning…
I thought of these two weeks as a bit of an adventure. Coming over from the mainland and driving down the winding roads of Bonchurch, reaching the seafront where I was staying, I felt a little like Cameron Diaz in The Holiday, finding my own unexpected haven.

For someone who is glued to their mobile and laptop, the lack of signal and internet was surprisingly refreshing.

I took long walks along the coast, watched films that I haven’t seen in ages and even managed to get into fiction writing again.

I thought it couldn’t get any better until I started as an intern at VB.

Credit to VB
I have so much respect for Sally and Simon. The time, effort and dedication that they put into VentnorBlog is an inspiration.

To run such a busy site so fantastically and make me feel so welcome is more than impressive. The site is a credit to them and their hard work. I really can’t emphasise enough how much heart and soul goes into their work.

Invaluable experience
The opportunities given to me by VB have been invaluable. In my chosen career, experience can mean everything.

From council stories about asparagus, to gig reviews, to complicated planning applications, I feel like I’ve covered the whole spectrum. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the one that got people talking, my opinion of the Isle of Wight council.

It’s been an interesting time to be in news on the Isle of Wight these past couple of weeks. I’ve hugely enjoyed immersing myself in the goings-on on the Island.

Being interested in everything helps in this business, but I’ve enjoyed working on every piece I’ve written. It’s been an absolute pleasure carrying out work experience here. I wish VB all the best for the future.

I’m proud to put ‘VentnorBlog‘ on my CV.
