As we have sadly come to expect after a period of heavy rain, the Isle of Wight coastline has been subject to storm sewage being discharged from sewer overflows this week.
Southern Water’s own Beach Buoy service reports ten locations where an “ongoing overflow release that may have affected water quality” in the last 24 hours.
There are two locations where SW state “there is an ongoing overflow release that will not impact the bathing water due to tidal conditions”.
Areas affected
Areas affected by ongoing releases in the last 24 hours include:
- Totland
- Colwell
- Cowes
- Gurnard
- Ryde
- St Helens
- Bembridge
- Whitecliff Bay
- Yaverland
- Sandown
The other locations where SW say the bathing water will not be impacted due to tidal conditions include:
- Shanklin
- Seagrove Bay
According to both Websites, Ventnor and Compton have not been affected by any storm sewage overflow.
The Surfers Against Sewage Website also offers the same service.
