Strange detail of mystery kayaker revealed at Coroner’s Inquest

The Inquest of the kayaker found dead on a beach in Sandown in September opened on the Isle of Wight this week, report the CP.

The body of a 40 year old man was found on Friday 11th September in Yaverland. The Inquest heard he was strapped inside the kayak he’d hired three days earlier in Newhaven.

The CP report that Morgan Savage, a doctor from Dublin, “suffered injuries to his left wrist and, fatally, to the right side of his neck, that may have been caused by a knife”.

Five weeks to identify
Police issued a number of public appeals after Mr Savage’s body was found, but it was not until 19th October that he was identified by his family and named the following day.

They are treating Mr Savage’s death as unexplained and awaiting histology results.

Our thoughts are with family and friends of Mr Savage.
