Wayne shares this latest report from the Vectis Isle Pioneers Motorcycle Club. Ed
The weekend kicked off on Friday evening with a bit of a party! Saturday morning saw the start of the trial – Four laps of twelve sections greeted the riders on a bright and warm late Summers day. Later on the Saturday evening the Club held its award presentations for the 2015 Championship.
Special presentations were also made to Howard and Christine Jacobs in recognition of all their hard work and dedication during the past ten years. Live music, courtesy of the Maxwell Brothers, followed the presentations. We were also treated to a great firework display – very well done Richard Crickmore, our very own pyrotechnics specialist and resident DJ.
Individual trials
Sunday’s trial required riders to do another four laps of the same twelve sections, this time the start and end gates were reversed meaning riders tackled the sections in the opposite direction.
As far as the Championship was concerned both days were treated as an individual trial with a bumper twenty points up for grabs if riders finished first on both days. After the main event concluded the Club ran a bicycle trial for the youth riders, using some of the existing sections. Ollie Taylor (pictured below) took the win whilst Jos Wright and Harrison Crickmore finished in joint second place.

Youth Classes
Kyle Jacobs (pictured below) and Matt Power fought it out in the Youth Beginner (over 80cc) class, and although Kyle took a convincing win on Saturday, things were much closer on the Sunday.

Matt who was probably a little ‘rusty’ managed to get within seven marks of Kyle who held on to earn himself the full twenty Championship points on offer. Very well done to both riders.
There was a similar story in the Youth Under 80cc’s, this time between friendly rivals Harrison Crickmore and Alfie Haydon. The finishing order remained the same on both days as Harrison emerged the clear winner on day one – but just two marks separated them on Sunday – excellent effort lads.
Jos Wright chose to ride the Twin Shock route and finished with an amazing total of just one dropped mark on Saturday – brilliant riding young man, and a total of thirteen for Sunday.
Adult Classes
Phil Silvester rode unopposed on both days in the Adult Beginner class, but still posted competitive scores to earn the maximum twenty Championship points – job done Phil. Two riders competed in the British bike class which saw course setter Howard Jacobs victorious on both days from John Townsend in second. Howard did have a bit of a scare when his clutch lever snapped off on the tricky logs at section six. Thankfully Howard escaped injury and was able to repair the bike in time to complete the trial.
The Intermediate class was an extremely close affair on Saturday between Andy Scott-Jackson (pictured at top) and joint course setter Geoff Taylor (pictured below). Andy just held on by one mark to take the spoils, Geoff was forced to settle in second place ahead of brother Mike Taylor in third. Things were a bit different on Sunday, Mark Coombes the clear winner from Mark Gray in second. Andy Scott-Jackson and Mike Taylors scores were tied but third place was awarded to Andy who notched up more cleans.

The well contested Novice group of riders also produced close finishes on both days. Paul Kent (Saturday) finished with the second lowest total of the weekend, just three dropped marks, two ahead of Wayne Brodie in second with Brian Brockwell third – only three marks separated these three!
Wayne (pictured below) managed to turn the tables on Sunday to take the win from Paul in second with Graham Bayton third. Brian Brockwell stepped up a class on Sunday to the more difficult Intermediate route. Brian finished in a creditable seventh place – very well done Brian.

The Twin Shock class was headed up (on both days) by Stewart Freeman, who went around for a loss of twenty on Saturday and just thirteen on the Sunday. Kerry Jacobs (pictured below) swapped his mono shock machine for an older Twin Shock bike, on the harder C course route (for the first time).

Kerry should be really pleased with his scores – these bikes are much more difficult to pilot around a modern course! an excellent second place on both days resulted – brilliant effort Kerry.
The Club would like to say a special thank you to the Morgan Family for allowing us to use their land for the Club’s flagship event, in this its tenth anniversary year. I would also like to thank (on behalf of everyone) the Jacobs Family – Howard, Christine, Kerry and Kyle for providing us all with a fantastic weekend of trials, camping, barbecues and even bacon rolls for our breakfasts! – excellent effort guys.
A very big thank you also goes to husband & wife team Geoff & Viki Taylor, for all their help with the course building and for capturing some brilliant images for us all to look back on.
