Doing proper journalism is expensive. It takes time to follow up leads, research stories and deal with people, to contact all parties for their side of the story. This is often made much longer by the organisations we question, who often avoid giving a direct answer and send us in circles. All of this is way before we can actually start writing the article.
Of course, all that you as a reader sees, or knows about, is the article itself.
Respect for the reader
We respect our readers too much to plaster OnTheWight with adverts – we prefer that you’re able to read the article without having to fight through adverts and popups. That means that the money that comes from those adverts doesn’t come to us. It’s a balance.
We’re primarily supported through monthly payments made by our readers. They tell us they do it, because they value the work we carry out for them on a weekly basis – and have done for almost 20 years.
OnTheWight doesn’t go for the cheap win, we pursue Trust, so naturally it’s flattering when people, like one very senior Isle of Wight figure said to us,
“OnTheWight is the Radio 4 for the Isle of Wight.”
