This week (24 to 30 September) sees the return of National Air Ambulance Week (NAAW).

Schools and businesses around the country will be putting on fundraising events this week. If you haven’t organised something yet, see what unusual ideas you can come up with to raise funds for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance – HIOWAA, your local Air Ambulance.

Every penny raised helps save lives within your community
Clive Dickin, National Director of the Association of Air Ambulances (AAA) said, “By supporting your local Air Ambulance you will be making a huge difference, as every penny raised will go a long way in helping to save lives within your community.”

He added, “We are delighted to be supported by the Honda Owners Club (GB) who have kindly sponsored the official NAAW wristbands, available from the HIOWAA office, and with the support of local and national media, we will raise awareness at grass roots level of the important lifesaving work undertaken across the country by Local Air Ambulances.”

No funding from the government or National Lottery
John Perry, CEO of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance said, “We are delighted with the response to National Air Ambulance Week from the community of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. We receive no funding from the government or the National Lottery for operational purposes, and so we rely on the generosity of the people of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to maintain the service.”

Lots going on
There are a great many events taking place during NAAW, in all parts of our region, from the New Forest, to Portsmouth and Southampton to Basingstoke.

There is a musical evening from the Replays in Southampton, a bucket collection with the Pod in Festival Place, Basingstoke, Andover Fire Station Open Day, Tesco Family Fun Day in Ryde (report to follow from Saturday’s event), a Classic Car run to Petersfield, the PoWWoW event on the St Clare ferry from Portsmouth to Fishbourne and much much more.

If you are not sure how you or your group, school or club, can get involved, just give us a call or email on [email protected] and we can give you some ideas.

All the NAAW events are on our website

Whatever you decide to do for NAAW, you can be sure that all the funds you raise will be used to help keep your LOCAL Air Ambulance flying and saving lives.’
