Visit Isle of Wight has been recognised with a Silver Award in the annual Green Impact Award, coordinated by SOS-UK and supported by the Isle of Wight council.
The Green Impact Award consists of a range of criteria to help organisations take simple actions to become more eco-friendly, ethical and environmentally aware.
What it covers
It covers themes such as water, energy, biodiversity and community, waste and recycling, and travel. Each business that enters is audited against a strict criteria to gain an award.
Visit Isle of Wight is one of 428 organisations across the UK, Europe and Australasia to receive an award.
Summers: Gaining an award was no mean feat
Speaking at the award ceremony last Friday at Calbourne Watermill and Rural Museum, Amy Summers the Sustainable Travel, Trade and Exhibitions Manager at Visit Isle of Wight, said,
“We’re delighted to win this award. A big part of what we do here at Visit Isle of Wight is to promote responsible and sustainable tourism, and this award highlights the efforts that we are making as a team to play our part in making the Island more sustainable.
“Our congratulations to the other award winners, gaining an award was no mean feat, and the combined efforts of Island businesses goes one step further to reduce the impact we are having on the environment.”
