This Friday, BBC’s The One Show will be screening a segment filmed on the Island by Isle of Wight company, People Media Productions and Isle of Wight Chef, Robert Thompson.
This, the first short film that People Media have created for the BBC’s One Show, focused on the autumnal joy that is foraging, and was lucky enough to have researcher, Clyde MacFarlayne, on the project, working closely with People Media over the past few months.
One of the oldest human activities
Foraging is one of the oldest human activities and brings with it many benefits such as access to healthy natural food, it’s sustainable, you can sample new tastes and recipes, it’s great exercise and a chance to connect with nature, as well as being free!
Finding out more about the advantages of foraging
The film was shot in and around Martins Wood, Newchurch and sees presenter Chris Bavin meet Robert, who is Chef Patron at Foresters Hall in Cowes, and his stepson Louie, to forage apples and blackberries, meet other local foragers and to find out more about the advantages of foraging.
Thompson: Only take what you need
Robert was keen to point out that when foraging,
“You should only take what you need.
“Remember that birds and animals rely on the same foods to get them through the winter.”
Steyger: Blessed with the weather
Tony Steyger directed the film and said,
“We were blessed with the weather which was perfect for filming, one of those still autumn days with constant sunshine in lovely unspoiled woodland.”
