A new podcast series ‘The Wild Wight’, written, recorded and hosted by Isle of Wight-based podcast producer Stuart Ballingall and his eight-year-old son Rufus, has now launched.
During the series they will be discovering some of the amazing animal species that can be found on the Island, taking a look at some wonderful wildlife conservation projects, and learning about how humans interact with the natural world.
Stuart says,
“We really hope people of all ages will get something from the show.
“Learning about nature has always been something we do as a family, and there are so many inspiring people and organisations working here that we really wanted to try and highlight some of it.”
Given a kick start by IW Creative Network
The show was first dreamt up during Lockdown when Stu and Rufus used their time off work and school to reconnect with nature, and this year the project was given a kick start by the IW Creative Network (IWCN).
IWCN have provided funding for the series through one of their bursary schemes, as well as project management support through their mentorship programme.
Episodes will be released on the last Wednesday of each month and the first season runs until October 2023, Stuart and Rufus are already planning a second one.
Share your suggestions
Stuart added,
“We could only cover a fraction of the things we wanted to, so it kind of feels like we are only scratching the surface in this season, and we’d love people to get in touch with suggestions of other things we can feature”
What to expect
The first episode features interviews with Helen Butler MBE from the Wight Squirrel Project, and Woodsman, Coppicer and Author of A Woodland Journeyman Jon Jewett.
There is a feature on iWatch Wildlife, a Poem from Island Poet and Author Kathryn Rossati, and an audio soundscape recorded at Castle Copse in East Cowes.
Eagle-Eyed readers may also recognise the work of Island Artist Idol.Mind on the cover artwork.
