Dan and Craig

These Islanders swam to the Mainland and back … just because they could

The swim from Hurst Castle to the Isle of Wight is a traditional favourite for Solent Swim – an annual fundraiser for West Wight Sports and Community Centre.

Islanders Dan Morgan and Craig Wilson both swim regularly in the waters of Totland and Colwell, Alum Bay etc and know the area and tides quite well.

So on Saturday they decided to swim across the Solent from Colwell Bay to Hurst Castle – and back again to Alum Bay. Just because they could!

Dan told News OnTheWight,

“We chose a date and time where the tide was favourable for getting us over, and coming back we just went with it all the way back to Alum Bay.

“It was good fun!”

Time for a coffee
Dan also told us, (with his tongue firmly in cheek),

“Truth was, we just fancied a coffee and had heard good things about this one.”

Well done Dan and Craig, what a great challenge to do ‘just for fun’.

Be cautious
A warning for others thinking of attempting the same, Dan and Craig are accomplished swimmers who know the area and the tides well.

If you want to try the same, why not sign up for the 2022 Solent Swim? Details from West Wight Sports and Community Centre.
