Three Ventnor Projects are to be given a High Sheriff Award at a meeting of Ventnor Town Council. Baby Box Isle of Wight, Better Days Cafe and the Wellbeing Cafe are to receive the awards at the meeting on the Monday 13th February.
The High Sheriff, Kay Marriott, had received a nomination from a local resident who was very impressed by the work and dedication of the three organisations.
Baby Box
Baby Box Isle of Wight provides nappies, baby food, clothing, and essentials to families across the Island. Baby Box have also established a Community Pantry with over 200 members and manage Ventnor Community Foodbank – set up by volunteers in response to the proposed closure of the local foodbank. Baby Box and the Foodbank are open access and do not require a referral or voucher.
Better Days Cafe
Better Days Cafe offers a warm and inclusive space at its cafe on the High Street and provides support to people with learning disabilities and mental health issues to gain confidence and life skills. There are a range of activities available, including a chess club, choir and parent and toddler group.
Ventnor Well-being Cafe
Ventnor Well-being Cafe has 100 members and meets four times a week at the Green Room, Salisbury Gardens.
It provides a safe space for people with anxiety or that are socially isolated. Members decide on activities – gardening, crafts, games, and trips.

Mayor of Ventnor Steph Toogood congratulated these fabulous organisations on receiving their awards. She said,
“Ventnor is very community-minded as these High Sheriff awards show. All of these groups are helped by teams of volunteers who have seen them grow from small beginnings to substantial organisations providing much needed assistance where needed.
“Ventnor Town Council and I recognise these wonderful achievements, which strengthen the wonderful local community spirit within our town.”
