Broken pillar

Three years to repair historic pillar at former Frank James Hospital

It was just over three years ago that a refuse truck hit and knocked down one of the pillars at historic Frank James Hospital in East Cowes.

Steve Goodman, one of the guerrilla gardeners who has been taking care of the grounds for the last four and a half years, got in touch to let us know that this week that the pillar has finally been repaired.

He said,

“My thanks again to the council’s Conservation officer Lee Byrne, who made sure that this got done eventually, and who has continued to provide so much help with Frank James and our many other deserving sites.”

Unfortunately, he went on to add,

“The less good news is that Frank James owners have now confirmed that contrary to recent announcements, no work on the building will start before early next year.”

Get together in December
Steve finished by saying,

“If anyone wishes to join us on site, with or without seasonal refreshments, the gates will be open again on the afternoon of Sunday 11th December.”
