Discussions that began in early 2015 between Visit Isle of Wight, Wightlink and Paramount Pictures UK have resulted in the release of a thrilling new app for the Isle of Wight – as well as creating an innovative driver to extend the tourism season on the Island.

The Isle of Fright Ghost Trail app has been devised and developed by Visit Isle of Wight in conjunction with Island businesses; HomePage Media Ltd, Words and Stuff and Skinny Mammoth. Local spirit guide Marc Tuckey provided the audio narration.

Head to the ‘Cold Spots’
The free to download app features a map of the Island and gives users the chance to navigate physically and virtually to ghost filled ‘cold spots’ and hear eerie tales from a paranormal expert.

The app includes a fun ‘ghost bombing’ feature that allows users to take a photo and put an eerie image over the top which can then be shared on social media with the opportunity to win prizes for the most popular images. Trailers and film information from Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension 3D are included in the app.

David Thornton, Chief Executive of Visit Isle of Wight Ltd says

“Our inspired use of cutting edge technology positions the Isle of Wight as a great place to visit. More than that it shows the wider tourism industry and beyond that when we create exciting opportunities, the Isle of Wight can devise and deliver top notch products. This app can be downloaded anywhere in the world giving multiple opportunities for us to spread our message about the offer on the Isle of Wight.”

Download the toolkit
Tourism businesses on the Island are urged to go to the Visit Isle of Wight industry website and download a brand new toolkit devised to enable businesses to make the most of this exciting, free marketing opportunity.

Simple to access, the toolkit includes web graphics, images, copy and audio – all easily downloadable and ready for use.

Most profitable film of all time
The original Paranormal Activity film is recognised as the most profitable film of all time and Visit Isle of Wight are thrilled to have been able to build on the commercial relationship they have with Paramount Pictures UK.

Ya-Lin Chen, Head of Partnerships and Promotions at Paramount Pictures UK comments:

“Paramount Pictures UK is delighted to again work with Visit Isle of Wight, a proactive organisation with a can-do attitude. From the start Visit Isle of Wight understood our objectives and was able to come up with creative solutions that maximised the benefits to both our organisations.”
