Ryde St John’s train station was evacuated at lunchtime today and British Transport Police have confirmed they are investigating a suspicious object.
The train line is still running between Ryde Esplanade and the Pier Head during the closure, with an extension to the bus replacement.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said:
“We were called to Ryde St John’s Road railway station, at 1.10pm on Friday, 6 March, after a report of a suspicious item.
“Colleagues from Hampshire Police are currently in attendance and the station is closed while investigations continue.”

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “We were called to Ryde St John’s Road railway station, at 1.10pm on Friday, 6 March, after a report of a suspicious item in the men’s toilet.
“Colleagues from Hampshire Constabulary also attended and the station was closed during the incident, as a precaution.
“At 4.15pm, the item was examined by BTP officers and declared safe. It has been recovered and enquiries are ongoing.”
