Tributes flood in for Chale pub’s beloved Mr Mouse following unexpected death

Tony Russell, known affectionately as Mr Mouse, has died unexpectedly at the age of 61.

Staff at The Wight Mouse Inn in Chale have announced the news, describing Tony as a beloved colleague and friend.

Tony had given 48 years of loyal service to the pub, making him a familiar and much-loved figure to generations of visitors and locals alike.

News of his passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences on social media, with more than 100 comments appearing within the first hour of the announcement.

The Wight Mouse Inn shared the news with the message,

“It is with utmost sadness we are heartbroken to share the news of the unexpected passing of our beloved colleague and friend Tony AKA Mr Mouse.”

The pub added,

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this saddest of times.”

A remarkable career
Tony was born on 9th October 1964 and died on 23rd March 2026.

His near half-century of dedication to a single establishment stands as a testament to his commitment to the pub and the community it serves.
